"Taco Meat Filling"

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Taco Bell is currently engaged in a lawsuit filed against them by an Alabama law firm for false advertisement. They are saying that what Taco Bell claims is "beef" is actually a mixture of processed garbage. Out of that processed garbage, only 36% of it is beef! That's right, THIRTY SIX. The other 64% is tasteless fibers - which are there to increase volume while keeping production cost down - as well as some additives, and topped off with flavoring/coloring. So, can you call beef something that LOOKS like ground beef, but it's actually made up of 64% lots-of-other-stuff? Taco Bell thinks so. The Alabama law firm thinks not. It appears that the law firm has a very valid point. According to The USDA, Taco Bell can't call this mixture "beef" at all. Beef is officially defined as "flesh of cattle". The law firm argues that Taco Bell correctly labels their meat mixture "Taco Meat Filling" in their industrial packaging, but they fail to do so in popular advertisements such as television/radio commercials, as well as ads!

People have the right to know what they are consuming.
