Sidney Prescott Could Be Killed Off in 'Scream 4'

Thursday, November 12, 2009

As Kevin Williamson says 'there are a lot of twists and turns' in 'Scream 4', the scriptwriter does not rule out possibility that Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott will be dead in the forthcoming film.

After it has been confirmed that Neve Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in "Scream 4", there is wild rumor that she will be killed off in the upcoming movie. In a recent interview with PopWrap, screenwriter Kevin Williamson refused to confirm whether or not the main character will be dead, but he did not rule out the possibility.

"The thing about 'Scream 4' is that there are a lot of twists and turns, so I can't promise anything," Williamson said about Sidney role. Teasing the fans of the thriller film franchise, he promised, "There are a lot of moving pieces, so we'll see -- but if you're a 'Scream' fan, I think you're really going to like it."

Williamson additionally shared about what elements will be included in the fourth "Scream" film. "I've [included] manga comics, Asian ghost girl movies, there's some PG-13 horror movies in there, vampire movies, M. Night Shyamalan movies and torture porn movies, even though they've come and gone," he said.

Moreover, Williamson claimed the biggest challenge for him in writing the script is not making it too funny. "You have to be careful because 'Scary Movie' spoofed these films, so one of the things I'm excited about with 'Scream 4' is that, while we do lampoon and send up the genre, [we] make it incredibly scary," he elaborated. "That's first and foremost."

Previously, Williamson has given a spoiler about the plot details as well as informed that the three main characters, Sidney, Courteney Cox's Gale and David Arquette's Dewey, will all appear in the film. Additionally, he mentioned, "We'll also be introducing a little group, a little ensemble of new cast members. That'll take us through the next three."

"Scream 4" has been said being intended to be a younger version of the "Scream" trilogy. The 2010 movie will be developed as the first of a new trilogy. Dimension Films' head Bob Weinstein has previously confirmed that director Wes Craven is in talks to direct the project, but he has not signed on as the helmer yet.
