Going to a toga party, Kylie? Minogue's bizarre and unflattering 'bed sheet' dress

What was she thinking? Kylie Minogue steps out of her New York hotel this morning in a toga-inspired dress


Kylie Minogue appeared to have left the bedclothes on as she breezed out on to the streets of New York this morning in an odd-looking white dress.

The Australian singer, who's usually on top fashion form, let the side down in a bizarre bed sheet-style number which looked rather like a toga.

She fastened her baggy outfit, complete with a silver neck trim, with a high-waisted belt and silver and black sandals.

Hiding behind a pair of sunglasses, the 42-year-old pop star waved to photographers as she flounced out of her hotel, fresh from an apparent raid of the dressing up box.

Former actress Kylie, who played mechanic Charlene Robinson in Aussie soap Neighbours back in the Eighties, is in the Big Apple following a gig she did at the weekend with singer Rufus Wainwright.

She wore a leopard-print Dolce & Gabbana fish-tail gown to perform with the Canadian-American singer at The Last Song of Summer Concert at The Watermill Centre.

Their set included a number of duets including Can't Get You Out of My Head and Locomotion, as well as Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

Their performance was to benefit The Windmill Centre, founded by Robert Wilson, which supports emerging artists.

Kylie, who is promoting new album Aphrodite in the States, tweeted enthusiastically before the event: 'This afternoon it all happens! :) I am so excited. Robert Wilson is a L*E*G*E*N*D and singing with Rufus divine!'

It was the first time they have performed together, but their mutual admiration is obvious. Miss Minogue gushed to the Wall Street Journal at the event:

'I'm a great admirer of his work and was thrilled when he came to see my concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC last year.

'I absolutely adore doing these types of one-off gigs.

'To share these moments with fellow artists, to be able to go off-piste and perform different songs and different styles is like food for the creative soul.'
