What was she thinking? Mischa Barton wore an unusual outfit to run errands in LA yesterday


Her former stylist Rachel Zoe must be shaking her head in wonder. Mischa Barton, who used to top 'Best Dressed' lists regularly, has stepped out in her third horrendous outfit in as many weeks.

The 24-year-old wore a strange brown patterned tunic with a frilly white blouse to run errands in Los Angeles yesterday.

The awkward length of the outfit combined with lace-up boots and disheveled hair did not make for a flattering ensemble.

The former O.C. actress picked up some food and chatted on her phone as she filled her classic convertible with petrol.

Mischa was seen in an unusual heavy red dress with gold trimming last week. Her choice of outfit was made all the more strange by the stifling 30c heat.

The tasseled dress looked like something out of the fanciful children's book as she met a male friend for lunch at the Larchmont Bungalow.

And before that Mischa wore a pair of unflattering high-waisted brown shorts. The velvet shorts themselves are very on-trend when teamed with high heels, but her choice of Grandpa blazer and brogue shoes missed the mark completely.

Back in 2006, under the guidance of famed stylist Zoe, Mischa was part of the Hollywood fashion pack, regularly turning up to red carpet events in stunning gowns by Marchesa and Matthew Williamson.

Even her off-duty uniform included plenty of Marc Jacobs and Chanel. But as her career and personal life went into a downward spiral, so too did her sense of style.

Miss Barton has preferred a more quirky, rock-star look of late, perhaps influenced by her relationships with musician Luke Pritchard of The Kooks and new boyfriend, DJ Ali Love, but her outfit choices are usually more faux-pas than fashionable.

Fortunately for Mischa though, it appears her film career may be back on track after the failure of much-ridiculed TV show The Beautiful Life.

She has three films in production, The Science of Cool, Upstate and Into the Darkness.
