Favourite Movie Friday with Damian Marley and Joe Lindsay aka Hopepa
Thursday, February 3, 2011
I had the opportunity to interview the youngest son of the legendary Bob Marley and awesome reggae/rap artist in his own rite, Damian Marley, late last year. As excited as I was, unfortunately his favourite movie choices were as uninspired and cringe-worthy as the ordeal of conducting an interviewing with him. He says:
“I like The Godfather series. A lot of people like that.”
Gee, thanks for that. Luckily I love you long time and seek to redeem musicians everywhere with this much more impressive answer from Joe Lindsay aka Hopepa from awesome Kiwi act Fat Freddy’s Drop. Hit me:
“I’m really in to, I just watched it again the other day, Withnail and I. It’s brilliant. It’s got Richard E. Grant and it’s set in the 60s with these two out of work, alcoholic actors. It’s a real cult movie that one. Now, what else have I got . . . what have I bought? I love all kinds. I’m a big fan of French new wave but I also love big, dumb sci-fi blockbusters. Recently I’ve got into watching whole series. I just got through the HBO stuff. Obviously The Wire got me - shiiiiiite (laughs). And Treme, I really love it, I just finished that. All kinds really, I probably watch a bit too much TV and DVDs.”

See Damian Marley? That’s what you call a well-formed, interesting and coherent answer. Anywho, you can see both acts playing at the Good Vibrations festivals throughout Australia in this month.
