'Scream 4' to Go for a 3-D Treatment

Saturday, October 24, 2009

Additionally, Wes Craven is reportedly 'closer than ever' to make his return to the director's chair for the fourth installment of the horror series.

A 3-D rumor is brewing for "Scream 4". First to bring up the story to the attention was Bloody-Disgusting (BD) which claimed to have received a tip that the Weinstein Company is planning to film and release the latest installment of the "Scream" series using the stereoscopy technology.

BD's report didn't stop just there. It further suggested that the series original director Wes Craven is "closer than ever" to return to his directing post. While 70-year-old Craven didn't officially approve the idea to helm the movie project, he has earlier stated that he will consider directing if the script is proven to be his liking.

"Scream 4" is intended to be a younger version of the "Scream" trilogy. It will be developed as the first of a new trilogy. Dimension Films' head Bob Weinstein has previously confirmed that director Wes Craven is in talks to direct the project. Courteney Cox and David Arquette have agreed to reprise their roles.

In late September, it was reported that contrary to earlier suggestion, Neve Campbell has signed on to portray Sidney Prescott once again. Weinstein came up with the story when announcing a new slate of movie projects the studio is putting into production. The confirmation debunked story that Prescott has to be scrapped off from the new installment due to Campbell's refusal to get involved.
