Porno for all creatures great and small

When it comes to director Kevin Smith, I’ll be on his hypothetical sidelines shaking a big, novelty foam finger that says `K.S is #1’. Therefore, you can imagine my excitement as I skipped along to see his latest (and highly controversial) film Zack And Miri Make A Porno. Starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth `I’m in every movie’ Banks, the pair play lifelong friends looking to solve their respective cash-flow problems by making an adult film together. And boy does Justin Long dish out a dose of awesomeness in a hilarious supporting role. Once you look past the dirty jokes and crude one-liners, the film is actually quite sweet at its core. It’s not as witty as some of Smith’s other moves but the jokes are plentiful and belly jiggling. Although this is very funny and positively charming, I can’t say it’s better than my favourite Smith film Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back but it does come in third behind Jersey Girl. And like pretty much every Smith film ever made the delicious Jason Mewes aka Jay shows up playing the character of Lester. It’s interesting to hear about all the censorship problems Smith had in the US due to the word `porno’ in the title. Which is pathetic when you consider what an insignificant word it is. Smith even had to do dozens of movie posters to go with the film because the censorship board kept banning everything he released. Australia is a bit more lenient (thank heavens) and the movie poster we received is the one pictured above. For US audiences the film was advertised through the poster below which made a joke of the fact everything Smith tried to release as a poster, they banned. In conclusion, if you want something a lil bit naughty and a lot bit brilliant Zack And Miri Make A Porno is great alternative to the overwhelming amount of sad, serious and slightly depressing films out at the mo.
