It's what all the cool kids are doing . . .

Thursday, November 13, 2008

It seems all the cool kids these days are starting up their own production companies. Leonardo Dicaprio, Reese Witherspoon, Adam Sandler, Natalie Portman, Hugh Jackman, Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst are just a few of the A-list celebs who have been using their hard earned millions to start up production companies. Personally I think it’s great to see these guys put something back in to the industry which they have got so much from. So I've decided to do a series on some of the companies out there as there's simply too much content for one post. There will be a new production company featured each day with a run down on the motivations behind their start ups and a complete filmography. To start of the series who better than Mr Chiseled Abs himself, Brad Pitt and his baby Plan B Entertainment.

Plan B Entertainment

Run down:
Talk about awkward . . . Brad Pitt and then wifey Jennifer Aniston founded this production company along with the CEO of Paramount Brad Grey. The company has had some pretty major hits considering its short history. Aniston withdrew from the company when she divorced Pitt and he started having babies with another, hotter woman. Like most of these companies they tend to produce films in which the actor stars. Plan B
currently has a deal with Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros and 20th Century Fox.
Released films:

Troy (2004)

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)

The Departed (2006)

Running with Scissors (2006)

Year of the Dog (2007)

A Mighty Heart (2007) – one of the best accounts of the sacrifices a foreign journalist and his wife (Angelina Jolie) had to make. Based on a true story and adapted from her memoir.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)

The Time Traveler’s Wife (2008)

The Gifted (2008)

Pretty/Handsome (2008)

Up and coming films:

The Tree of Life (2009)

The Senator’s Wife (2009)

The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) – talk about an ensemble of powerful leading ladies! This drama stars some of the best actresses in Hollywood with Robin Wright Penn, Julianne Moore, Monica Bellucci, Winona Ryder, Maria Bello (with the exception of the irritating Blake Lively). Keanu Reeves is also thrown in for good measure and Little Miss Sunshine legend Alan Arkin is in a lead too.

Peace Like a River (2009)

On the Clock (2009)

Kick-Ass (2009) – Nicholas Cage lead a cast of minors in a quirky film about an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a super-hero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.

Atlas Shrugged (2009)

World War Z (2010) – awesome sounding film adapted from a novel about a man collecting the stories and experiences of those who survived a world wide Zombie epidemic known as World War Z. Can’t wait! No directors or actors are on board yet.

Marching Powder (2010)

Dirty Tricks (2010)
