Don't you think it's time to let your daughter Cruise alone, Katie?

Don't out me down, Mummy: Suri Cruise clings onto Katie Holmes as they leave a house in New York this morning

Is this the laziest child in Hollywood?

When most youngsters learn to walk there's simply no stopping them racing around and testing out their new-found independence.

But one exception is Suri Cruise who seems to be determined to let her mother carry her at every given opportunity.

Not that Katie Holmes has objected to her daughter's clinginess, as she appears to be perfectly happy to lug her around wherever they go.

Suri, who turns four on April 18, snuggled into Katie, 31, as they left a house in New York this morning.

And she showed no signs of standing on her own two feet even though Katie appeared to be struggled under the weight of her child as she tried to juggle her daughter, her mobile phone and her keys.

On Saturday, they were spotted out together in New York again, with Katie once again carrying her daughter around the city.

Suri looked cute as a button in bunny slippers and ears and a pink butterfly print dress, but once again had no intention of walking by her mother's side.

Suri accompanied Katie to the ABC Carpet store on Broadway before they went for a stroll round Union Square.

Understandably she was carried a lot by Katie and her father Tom Cruise, 46, when she was much smaller, and she has been snapped walking by herself on a few occasions.

But as she approaches her fourth birthday and an age where she will be soon starting school, neither mum nor dad seem to want to force any independence on her.

Of course, observers can't have failed to notice the irony of the situation either

On one hand, Suri is still being treated like a baby, by being carried everywhere, and, as reports from the US suggested today, still drinks out of a baby bottle.

Yet her parents have been heavily criticised for dressing her up in grown-up attire which includes a few pairs of heeled shoes and sandals.

She has also been snapped with a face of make-up and often carries around a cosmetic bag filled with lipsticks and blushers.
