Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z take their privacy very seriously, possibly a bit too seriously sometimes.

They couple are rarely seen in romantic poses or even communicating their affection for each other.

So it came as a nice surprise to see them caught off-guard as they strolled through Nice airport hand in hand today.

But nothing is ever as it seems with this couple and on closer inspection, they actually appeared to be holding a couple of oranges. Weird, you got it

The smiles - and momentary dropping of the barriers - were perhaps down to last night's success at the NRJ awards - the top event in France's music calendar.

Jay-Z received a rapturous response from the crowd at Cannes as he performed Empire's State of Mind, while wife Beyoncé, 29, picked up an honorary award.

The discreet couple have been married for nearly two years and together since 2002 - but to say they keep a low-profile is something of an understatment

Although they frequently collaborate on music projects, Beyoncé has said that not publicly discussing their relationship has helped them.

Beyoncé travelled to France for this weekend's awards ceremony after performing as part of the 'Hope for Haiti Now' telethon on Friday night.

Singing in London, she performed her hit 'Halo' and was accompanied on the piano by Coldplay's Chris Martin.

Along with the likes of Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake and Keith Urban, she helped raise £20million for the troubled island.

Of the telethon the singer said: 'It's brilliant, such a fantastic idea. I'm so excited to be here. It's such a tragic situation and we should all do what we can to help

Earlier this month, she and Jay-Z singers were named Hollywood's top-earning couple by Forbes magazine.

The ex-Destiny's Child star out-earned her rapper husband - bringing in £53.6million to his £21.6million.
