Waist-ing away: Singer Cheryl Cole looked worryingly thin as she left her hotel in Paris today
She's not mentioned the 'Ashley' word since announcing her separation from him almost four weeks ago.
But today Cheryl Cole spoke for the first time about her relationship with her estranged husband, spelling out that the Chelsea footballer is perfectly aware of how she feels.
Her comments came via her PR's Twitter page, Supersonicpr, where she responded to reports about 'waggling' her wedding ring-free finger yesterday.
The X Factor judge, currently on a promotional blitz in Paris, insisted she was not sending out a cryptic message to Ashley, writing, almost defensively: 'He does not need to see a picture of me moving the hair out of my face to explain anything.'
She added: 'I find it crazy that people would think I use this as some sort of msg. Believe it or not Ashley is fully aware of any situation going on in our personal lives.'
Today Cheryl, looking super slim, was pictured with a ring back on her wedding finger - but it was not one of Ashley's two wedding rings, instead a gold cocktail band.
Thinner: Cheryl wore a black cropped top and low slung khaki trousers which highlighted her tiny waist
The Girls Aloud star started her Twitter message by explaining: 'I just wanted to clear up the stories about whether I am wearing my wedding ring in my own words as this has been going on for too long and is getting boring.
'It is not some silly game I am playing. That is not me and not my style.
'There have been many occasions where I have not worn my wedding ring, many of those when I was pictured with Ashley.'
Her comments are the first time she has directly referenced Ashley since announcing her separation from him last month following claims he had cheated on her with a string of women.
Speaking out: Cheryl's message on Twitter this afternoon, the first time she has reference estranged husband Ashley since announcing their split last month
In other interviews, she has carefully avoided mentioning his name.
The defensive nature of her retort may lead some to question whether Cheryl is considering a reconciliation with Ashley.
And judging by her comments, it would seem she is still in touch with him.
Cheryl stepped out in a black cropped top, leather bomber jacket and fashionably low slung khaki trousers.
But it was the smallness of her waist that really drew attention to her dramatic weight loss in a stressful month that has saw her struck down by bronchitis as well as dealing with her marital woes.
Cheryl's bandmate Nadine Coyle has similarly come under scrutiny after pictures emerged of her looking stick thin.

Cheryl, 26, is in the French capital promoting her new single, and looked absolutely stunning as she left her hotel to do an interview with TV channel Canal+ yesterday.
In a fitted black, white and lace dress her happy face was certainly a far cry from the sombre and woeful look she displayed earlier in the week.
Only 24 hours ago, observers couldn't help but notice a pale and thin looking Cheryl as she made one of her first public appearances since her split from Ashley.
They remarked on her worryingly thin frame as she arrived for an interview on BBC Radio 1 in London to promote her new single, Parachute, the third track off her number one album, 3 Words.
Are you watching, Ashley? Cheryl dressed in green combat trousers and a cropped leather jacket and, right, waving her wedding ring-free hand last night
The singer's face looked sunken after she spent the past week at home in bed with bronchitis but she blamed it on a hangover after a night out with her girlfriends.
She also said she was flattered by a recent poll which placed her as the most inspirational woman in the world.
But perhaps in a veiled jibe about her marriage to Chelsea footballer Ashley, she said: 'I love inspiring other women.
'But I'm still a human being, so obviously there are going to be times I still make mistakes - a bad choice or a bad outfit or whatever, but I'm hoping that still is an inspiration to women.'
Loud and clear: A grumpy Ashley, pictured here watching his team Chelsea in the Champions League last week, is facing a divorce after wife Cheryl's blatant signal to him today
Meanwhile it was revealed yesterday that detectives are investigating a threat against Mrs Cole in an answer-phone message left on X Factor host Dermot O'Leary's mobile phone.
The presenter was believed to have raised the alarm after picking up the threat on his voicemail left by an unknown caller.
A City of London Police spokesman confirmed an investigation had been launched into an 'offensive message'.
Security for The X Factor judges was apparently increased in 2008 after a tracking device was put into Simon Cowell's car.
Cowell was left shaken when he found the device in his £140,000 Bentley after seeing a man lurking nearby.
Cole is said to have been made aware of the threat but has not listened to the phone message.
