Hiding away: Ashley Cole watches Chelsea lose against Inter Milan during the Champions League second leg

Chelsea fans have caught only fleeting glimpses of Ashley Cole in recent weeks - as he receives treatment for his injury and tries to save his marriage.

He's been pictured at a French sports clinic and in his car leaving his Surrey home after a visit to his sick - and extremely unhappy - wife.

But last night, the England international ventured out into public view to watch his team take on Inter Milan at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League.
And how much he must wish he hadn't.

Under cover of his hoodie, Cole suffered with the rest of the Blues as the Italians, managed by former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, inflicted a rare home defeat.

Inter Milan scored a 1-0 win through Samuel Eto'o's goal after Chelsea could find no way through their tough-tackling, and occasionally fouling, defence.

It gave them a 3-1 aggregate win after the first leg in Italy and saw them go through to the quarter-finals and Chelsea eliminated.

The agony was doubled by the fact that the defeat - their first at home in 22 European games - was masterminded by the most successful manager in their history.

No lucky charm: Despite injured Cole's presence Chelsea lost 1-0

Mourinho won two league titles, the club's first for 60 years, an FA Cup and two League Cups, during his three years at Stamford Bridge.

Unfortunately, he clashed with Roman Abramovich, the chairman who had bankrolled the success, and was sent on his way.
