Ashley Cole keeps his head down as he flies home for a showdown with wife Cheryl

Embarrassed: Ashley Cole kept himself hidden as he arrived back to his Surrey home last night to face wife Cheryl Cole


He's Britain's most-wanted man at the moment after allegedly cheating on the nation's sweetheart.


So it's little wonder Ashley Cole desperately tried to keep his face from the cameras as he jetted into the UK to face his wife Cheryl.

The disgraced Chelsea star looked ashamed of himself as he ducked down behind the back seat of his chauffeured car as he arrived at the couple's Surrey home last night.

According to the Sun newspaper, he arrived at the marital home yesterday evening where Cheryl was said to be waiting for him inside.

It was believed to be the first time the couple have seen each other since revelations of his alleged infidelities emerged.

The footballer had hobbled in on crutches, having flown in from Biarritz in France where he had been treated at a sporting injuries clinic for a broken ankle.

Hours earlier, he jetted into a private airport on a white jet that Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich uses to fly to away games.

He was then whisked away by limo to face Cheryl at their mansion, although a friend of Cheryl's insisted that they had not reconciled.

They told the Sun: 'Cheryl was in the house when he arrived back and she would be there.

'But she has not taken him back. It was not a reunion. They had a lot to talk about. There was an emotional chat about how to move forward.

'But Cheryl is still incredibly angry and upset and determined to leave and set up a new life. She was prepared to hear what he had to say but that's it.'

This week, Cheryl cancelled her scheduled appearance on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross and a Live Lounge session on Fearne Cotton's mid morning Radio 1 show yesterday after she came down with a bout of bronchitis.

She has believed to have been confined to her bed ever since on doctor's orders and is barely able to speak.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, a friend said today: 'She is in no fit state to discuss the ins and outs of their relationship but she has made it very clear over the past few weeks she is in no mood to kiss and make up.'
