Party girl: Karen Gillan looks in high spirits as she swills red wine on a night out

Karen Gillan has only been famous a few months after landing the role as Doctor Who's sexy sidekick Amy Pond.
So it was only a matter of time before embarrassing photos of the Scottish actress leaked out.

After weeks of well-styled, sophisticated appearances at promotional events for the new series, Gillan has been caught on camera looking a tad worse for wear.

Photos of the 22-year-old enjoying a raucous night out with friends shortly before she became fame surfaced on the internet over the weekend.

While it is unknown where the pictures were taken, it certainly looked like the actress had been enjoying a few drinks as she was photographed with both red wine and a glass of spirits.

Wearing a black top and matching bolero, Gillan looks thoroughly in the party spirit as she throws her arm up in the air while drinking a glass of red wine.

In another shot, likely taken a bit later on in the night, Gillan looks ready for bed as she sits clutching a long drink while her tights appear to be laddered.

The alcohol-fuelled pictures of the actress are in complete contrast to the stylish star, who has been winning over Americans fans for the promotional trip to New York.

Perhaps aware of the embarrassing photos, Gillan said last week she had cut down on her drinking.

She said: 'I think I am going to try and lay off falling out of nightclubs. It’s not a good look.'

Gillan and new Time Lord Matt Smith spent several days in New York last week, before flying to Los Angeles on Thursday.

Despite recent romance reports linking the two, Smith was photographed holding hands with model Daisy Lowe at the Coachella Festival in California.

Last week, Smith played down speculation of an on-screen romance between the Doctor and Amy.

He said: 'There is always room for romance in Doctor Who but to be honest, the idea of the companion and the Doctor getting together is a bit of a tired story by now.

'There is only so far it can go. What happens? So, they get together, travel around the universe, end of story? There has to be more to it than that.'
