Anna Friel enjoys close lunch and dinner with young Breakfast at Tiffany's co-star in LA while her partner remains in Britain

Fast friends: Anna Friel and Joseph Cross enjoy lunch together in LA on Sunday


It has been more than two months since they last shared the stage.

But Anna Friel and her Breakfast at Tiffany's co-star Joseph Cross appeared closer then ever this weekend.

The pair have become virtually inseparable since they finished working together in January and have both jetted out to LA where they went out to lunch accompanied by Miss Friel's mother and the actress's four-year-old daughter Gracie.

It comes after the pair were spotted in a lingering embrace outside London's Theatre Royal in December when they were both starring in the play.

At the time, Miss Friel, who is in a long-term relationship with Harry Potter actor David Thewlis, insisted that she and the American were just good friends.

They were also spotted at a nightclub in California last month and having dinner at a cafe.

Thewlis has remained in London, where he is finishing work on the second half of the final film in the Harry Potter series, The Deathly Hallows, in which he plays werewolf Remus Lupin.

Miss Friel, 33, has always insisted her relationship with Cross, 23, is strictly platonic.

She said recently: 'He's a person I'm very close to. I worked with him every day for six months - he's so dear to me. He's my wonderful friend and co-star.

'He gave me a kiss and was, like, "Hello, darling" and they made a story about it.

I'm very tactile.'

The Rochdale-born star admitted that her nine-year relationship with Thewlis is unconventional.

The couple split their time between Friel's Windsor home and Thewlis's converted Victorian ballroom home in London.

She said: 'He's 13 years older than me. We have our own separate properties and we're not married. He's never asked me to marry him.

'No way does a woman ask a man. I know some people do but I couldn't.'

Thewlis has been married once before, to director Sara Sugarman in the early Nineties.

Last night a representative for Miss Friel said: 'Anna and Joseph are just good friends. The play they were working on together finished several months ago but they still keep in touch. I don't want to comment any further.'
