He’s been busy being a shoulder for Cheryl Cole to cry on in recent weeks and now dancer Derek Hough has been getting close to another gorgeous pop star - Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger.

The twosome were all smiles as they were pictured during rehearsals for Dancing With The Stars.

Scherzinger and Hough, who have been paired together for the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, looked to be getting on famously as they began training.

Scherzinger dressed in green jogging bottoms with her name written across them and a black vest for the occasion, and looked deep in concentration.

The 31-year-old recently admitted that she has been in agony since rehearsals began.

'My feet are so beat up, after just a couple days of rehearsals,’ she said at a pre-Oscar party at the Avalon nightclub last night.

‘I'm not used to these shoes. Sure, I'm used to wearing seven-inch heels with the Pussycat Dolls, but this is a different style of dancing and a ballroom shoe.

'There's a lot of pain involved. But it's nothing that I'm not used to.'

The Dancing With The Stars line-up also features Pamela Anderson, Beverly Hills 90210 star Shannen Doherty, Olympic figure skater Evan Lysacek, American football player Chad Ochocinco, soap star Aiden Turner and reality TV star Kate Gosselin.

But bookmakers will no doubt be favouring Hough and Scherzinger - who perhaps has an unfair advantage due to her experience dancing with The Pussycat Dolls.

'Derek and I are pretty crazy.' Scherzinger told MTV. 'We're probably the goofiest cats ever. We were electric from the start.

'The first dance that we've been assigned is the Viennese waltz. I just learned how to say that properly - I've been calling it the Vietnamese waltz.'

Latin American world champion Hough was romantically linked to X Factor judge Cheryl Cole after he was spotted visiting her LA hotel room last month.

She announced that she was separating from footballer husband Ashley Cole shortly afterwards.

• The new series of Dancing With The Stars will be screened in the UK on the Watch cable channel from March 26.
